The word ‘Zen’ in the Far East means tranquil (the Z Zone) peace, could not be in a better place. The Zen being a shorter boat than the Zenith, the name Zen also being shorter is a match made in heaven.
Having in such a short time now sold over 100 Zeniths, without any advertising campaign, many single-handed sailors, when enquiring about the Zenith were disappointed to be advised they were the wrong weight being under 90kgs. Their response being ‘can we test sail the Zenith to see if we can sail it anyway?’. ‘Are you going to make a sail for us lighter-weight sailors? We are also getting older! And want to sail. Be comfortable and race in big winds with the knowledge we will be fine with the ballasted centreboard’.
When informed we had already committed to another £100k investment in new tooling, moulds & patterns and jigs and that a smaller boat called the Zen for 55kg – 90kg sailors had been designed with the new tooling on the way, they were delighted, in fact, over the moon with deposits paid instantly.
The Zen has all the qualities of the Zenith but, as per its specification, is smaller, lighter, fitted with a smaller main sail and ‘yes’ it requires a lighter ballasted centreboard. Even better news for those lighter helms of the 55kg range is that we have designed a second smaller sail thus widening the facility to be able to sail this amazing new boat.
Designed once again by Phil Morrison with Marks continued input, knowledge and enthusiasm for this boat and finally, with the best in-house sail designer, Steve, to add his final touch with two new designed square top sails beautifully made with a well-balanced mainsail and a smaller sail ensuring we achieve maximum performance from the Zen.
With the added value that comes with from the experience and knowledge gained from building the Zenith. The Zen committee is formed, the 2026 calendar organised and set with 7 open meetings throughout the Country, an Inland Championship at Blithfield SC and the National Championships at Poole it is going to be a great and exciting year for the Zenith family Sailors.
Racing will commence with the fastest boat, the Zenith 2, starting first with the Zenith starting 5 minutes behind and the Zen starting 5 minutes after the Zenith.
It is intended to have Inland Nationals and Open Meetings for each of the Zenith range of boats.
As well as great sailing, there will be great onshore times had for the family, good food, drinks and entertainment with a very welcoming and friendly family atmosphere. I invite all sailors to join the growing concept of Zenith sailing.
Just dealing with disappointed lighter Zenith helms we have already sold over 20 boats and are sold out until May 2026. We are completing testing during January and are so confident that if after securing your build slot with a £500 deposit should you either not enjoy your test sail or if you are not delighted and enjoy sailing your new Zen within one month, we will refund your monies in full.
All the benefits given by the Zenith but for helms 55kgs – 90kgs.
