Wanderer Weekender Package:
The most stable 14ft dinghy in the world has just got better, now with its  cast-iron ballasted centreboard. When sailing in heavy winds the boat just luffs up into the wind instead of capsizing, the boat is virtually impossible to capsize. A lighter construction to compensate for its  ballasted centreboard makes handling on and off the water easy. The simple and quick to reef (within seconds) slab reefing main and its furling reefable genoa system is superb, a high-boom and controls led to centre cockpit and with asymmetric or symmetric options makes this boat a must for cruising sailors.

Following the success of the Wayfarer Weekender with its ballasted centreboard, we have been asked many times by Wanderer sailors ‘when will you build a Wanderer with a ballasted centreboard, after all the original old Wanderer was fitted with an Iron centerboard what is the problem?’  I did not like the iron centreboard; it just added weight to the 134kg hull weight and made it difficult to launch on steep slipways or a harder task dragging the Wanderer over a very long sandy beach.

The only way to become a new successful Wanderer is to repeat the Wayfarer Weekender, removing the weight by building a lighter hull to compensate for the weighted ballasted centerboard.

The Development

This is not easy and only achieved by a great deal of planning, time and new build techniques. Yes, it is more expensive, we build using a foam sandwich construction this is vacuumed bagged to give the hull its rigidity, with special bulk heads all saving weight but costing a great deal of time, resulting in a longer boat build time, but ensuring this new Wanderer when built is much lighter and will also last the rigors of time as with all Wanderers.

New Wanderer Weekender

Now as with the new Wayfarer the new Wanderer Weekender with the 48kg ballasted Centreboard fitted is virtually impossible to capsize, it just luffs into the wind. The boat comes with a higher boom giving plenty of open vision under the sail with no ducking as you tack. The boat is fitted with all controls led to the center cockpit for ease of use, a one line operated from the boom the slab reefing main sail system coupled with a furling reefable genoa makes it possible to reef down in under 25 seconds.

Weekender is complete

The Wanderer comes with an asymmetric or symmetric spinnaker but with the advantage of having an easy to launch and drop spinnaker shoot, with the forestay positioned behind the shoot mouth making spinnaker hoisting and drop a simple task.  The boat is fitted with metal bailers, padded toe straps and a tabernacle to ensure it is easy to cantilever your mast if you need to do so.

The Wanderer with its clinker-built hull is renowned for being the most stable 14 ft sailing dinghy in the World but now with its ballasted centerboard and with the boat weight still being comparable with the standard Wanderer this now is an outstanding boat to sail, a boat that you can sail single-handed with the knowledge the boat will look after you.

The boat is complete and ready to sail at a list price of £17,995.00, with an R Y A introductory show offer of £4,000.00 reducing the boat to just £13,995.00 inc vat. The boat is sold on a first come first served basis, and sold with a 4-year guarantee.

Everyone at Hartley Boats looks forward to meeting you at the show and answering all your questions.

Regards
Mark & Richard
